I read every book in the series more than 45 years ago - they have been my favourite books ever since. So imaginative for a series of books from the 1910s.

Without a doubt my favorite book from the pulp fiction era. It is impossible for the reader to find himself bored.

This was an outstanding read. I have heard this book in audio format. Reading it was much better.

The Barsoom series are a very enjoyable read. I\'m on the 5th novel now (The Chessmen of Mars) and have just found out that the John Carter movie will be out 2012, can\'t wait.

A hero from Earth, a princess, a planet full of warlike Martians and vicious life forms - what more could you ask for? Fast paced and imaginative.

I have loved this series since I was a teenager. My mom and dad read the series and recommended it to me. I\'ve read the whole series at least 7 times. By the way, the Princess of Mars is a 3 book continuation. The Gods of Mars is the second book and Warlord of Mars is the 3rd. However, there is 11 books to the whole series. Edgar Rice Burroughs is a great author and the tarzan series is just as fun.

I always associated the name Edgar Rice Burroughs with Tarzan--until I read this book. For now on, Mr. Burroughs will be a sci-fi writer in my mind. While the science in this early example of science fiction seems a bit dated, given what we now know about our solar neighbor and it's nature, it is easy to get lost in the fantasy and embrace the world of Mars and it's inhabitants. I found myself quickly suspending my disbelief and enjoying the ride as the central character, John Carter, revealed himself to be exactly what I want my heroes to be--a hero. We live in a society that is obsessed with anti-heroes and flawed protagonists, and I found it thoroughly refreshing to see a champion who knew what direction his moral compass was pointing. This is an excellent tale of heroism, love, and humanity, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a light leap of fantastic adventure.
