I would have suggested an alternate ending to ERB if I could have. He WAS a monster, they get married, have a kid and it comes out looking like number 10. Try and live that one down doc.

An absolutely brilliant sci-fi adventure book. the story is fast-paced and exciting. the action is great and it raises moral questions.
It could never be written today as some non-white characters are villainous (you can only have white badguys these days) but it is actually balanced.
the only problem is a very dumb twist at the end that feels tacked on and defeats the moral questions raised, but it can and should be ignored.

A professor is able to create life (and without the aid of lightning.
But, seclusion is necessary, since his first efforts are compatible to those of Victor Frankenstein.
An island is the best choice for such endeavors..
Managing a mob of misshapen monsters is not the professors only concern.
There are pirates, greedy comrades and not to mention his lovely daughter.
It is left to one monster, or is he man, to save all.
Reminiscent of the H. G. Wells 1986, 'The Island of Doctor Moreau',
but this professor starts from scratch, his wonders to create, instead of using animals.

This book is superb. A simple mad scientist tale is turned into a distinctly menacing and believable story that's a real page turner. Good characters, an intelligent plot and even a few savage spears for good measure.
