A story set in a totalitarian state where the Department of Public Security, and especially its Director, keep the population in line. Lenster, a troublemaker, has vanished, but the Director has discovered where, or rather, in whom, he is hiding.
The story raises the same question that Vonnegut's Mother Night did, namely, if you do such a good job working undercover that you help the enemy, are you doing more harm to your own people than to the enemy you are trying to subvert?
This story is a bit talky and dull, but it has a few interesting ideas.
