If a book can leave its imprint on your mind, your thoughts, your being, this is it. Haunting characters of Hermachis, Cleopatra, Charmion, Mark Antony, terrific. If a book can leave you agonized of sorts, this is it. I must have read it a dozen times, perhaps, read it a dozen more; fantastic score! Oh yeah it is fantastic score as in music. This book is music. Delectable. Leaves you crazy, yearning for more!

The beginning of this book was rather ponderous since the main character was constantly moaning about his sad fate and he will tell us about it later; however, the middle to end of the book really picks up. The romances and avengings and revengings amidst the historical Egypt was quite enjoyable.

The best book I've ever read! And the one that, over 30 years ago, got me hooked on Sir Henry Rider Haggard. No novel has ever moved me more!
